Dr Magnus MacFarlane, Senior Consultant
Magnus has 25 years of strategic and technical experience in socio-economic performance management, gained both as an independent consultant and as an academic at the University of Oxford and the University of Warwick.
He is a fully accredited socio-economic assessor, accountant, and assurance provider, with specialist expertise in socio-economic performance strategies, policies, plans and processes. This includes stakeholder consultation, grievance management, livelihood and needs analysis, local content development, community investment, resettlement, and socio-economic impact / risk assessment, monitoring, auditing, and reporting.
Magnus has published widely and delivered advisory services focused on an extensive range of international socio-economic performance, governance and safeguarding standards. He has provided analysis, training and advice to national governments across Africa, Asia and Europe, a range of international mining, oil and gas majors, as well as companies in the infrastructure, logistics and renewable energy sectors. He has also carried out extensive work for international institutions including the IFC, OECD, UNDP, EBRD, ADB and AFDB.
Magnus has a PhD in Socio-economic Impact Assessment and Resettlement Planning for major infrastructure projects and holds an MSc in International Development Planning and Administration.
