Materiality, risk and impact
Materiality assessment
Our materiality assessment methodology provides a highly structured (yet tailorable) framework to analyse and understand what matters most to an organisation and its stakeholders – including investors, finance providers and customers. We enable our clients to focus their sustainability strategies, management actions and reporting on the most impactful areas, whilst monitoring and enhancing performance over time.
Our offering includes:
- Research, peer benchmarking and document review and analysis – ranging from best practice sector benchmarks through to detailed ESG investor criteria
- Application of our quantitative scoring framework to support systematic issue prioritisation
- Internal engagement to integrate multiple perspectives, whilst building cross-disciplinary consensus and sustainability ‘buy-in’
- Bilateral and multilateral external engagement to promote mutual understanding and ensure responsiveness to external views and concerns
- Development of supporting strategies, KPIs and management plans to convert the outcomes of the process into concrete action
- Mapping of material issues to relevant external frameworks including the GRI Standards) and the UN SDGs – as well as specific ESG investor criteria
- Integration (subject to client appetite) of key outputs into external reporting, including visually engaging matrices, infographics and supporting analysis
